Can We Talk About Intuition Without Abandoning Common Sense?
Updated: Jun 18
When you're stuck in a job, a business, or a life phase that isn't working anymore, everyone gives you the same advice: "Follow your gut."
But if you like logic, that advice feels crazy. You have bills, a family, and a career you worked hard to build. You can’t make moves based on a vibe. You should absolutely pay attention to what your body is telling you. It's valuable information. But it's not a plan. You need to know how.
How do I change careers without taking a massive pay cut? How do I start a business without risking my financial stability? How do I actually do this? Here is why you haven't figured out the "how" yet: You are trying to solve the end of the puzzle before you have the pieces.
"How" is a strategy. But you can't build a strategy until you answer five basic questions first. You know, those questions you learned way back in elementary school to help you understand and communicate clearly? If these answers are messy, your plan will be messy, and you will stay paralyzed.
Let's break down the 5Ws—not as deep philosophical ideas, but as practical facts we need to look at.

1. WHO
Who are you trying to protect or please with this move? Your spouse? Your parents? Your boss? The industry you spent ten years in?
The Problem: If you are trying to make a plan that keeps everyone else happy, your plan will fail.
The How: We have to strip away everyone else's opinions first. When we figure out exactly what you need, the steps get cut in half.
2. WHAT
What actually needs to change? Do you hate your entire industry, or do you just hate your current boss? Do you want less work, or do you just want more control over your time?
The Problem: If you try to change everything because you are generally frustrated, you will panic and do nothing.
The How: We pinpoint the exact thing that is broken. If only 15% of your situation is bad, we don't blow up your whole life. We just fix that 15%. That's an easy problem to solve.
3. WHEN
When does this need to happen? Next month? Six months from now? Two years?
The Problem: If your timeline is "someday," you will never start. If your timeline is "tomorrow," you will freak out because it feels too risky.
The How: We pick a safe, realistic timeline. If we decide you have six months to make a move, we can work backward, creating a plan with tiny, incremental weekly steps. No leaps of faith required.
4. WHERE
Where do you want to land? What are your financial non-negotiables? What kind of environment do you need?
The Problem: Most people spend all their time thinking about what they want to leave, but they have no idea what they are moving toward.
The How: If you know you cannot drop below a certain income level, that rules out certain options immediately. Rules are good. They limit your choices so you don't get overwhelmed.
5. WHY
Why are you doing this right now? Is it for more freedom, more money, or less stress?
The Problem: If you don't know your real driver, you will quit the second the transition gets uncomfortable.
The How: Your "why" tells us how much risk you can handle. If you just want peace, we build a very safe, slow plan. If you want total freedom, we build a bolder plan.
Stop Guessing. Use Data.
Intuition isn't magic. It's your brain recognizing patterns based on facts you already know - both conscious and unconscious.
When you work with a coach, we don't wait for a lightning bolt of inspiration. We put your facts on the table. When your Who, What, When, Where, and Why are clear, the How isn't a mystery anymore. It becomes the obvious next step.
